Marcus Laytham selected as Chief Deputy

Sheriff Sholar names Marcus Laytham Chief Deputy
of the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office

After a careful consideration of all applicants, Sheriff Walt Sholar has selected Marcus Laytham to serve as Chief Deputy of the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Laytham, a Bullitt County resident for over 40 years, grew up in the Mt. Washington area and graduated from Bullitt East High School in 1989. He resides in Mt. Washington with his wife and daughter. Chief Laytham and his family are members of Davidson Memorial Methodist Church in Shepherdsville.

The Chief began his law enforcement career in 1995 with the Louisville Police Department where he served as a patrol officer in the 2nd, 4th, and 6th districts and also served as a detective in the LPD Street Crimes Unit, the Gang Squad, 1st Division Flex Unit, and the Criminal Intelligence Unit. When the Louisville Police merged with Jefferson County Police, he was promoted to Sergeant in 2005 where he served in the 2nd Division, Homicide Unit, Homicide Cold Case Unit, Missing Person’s and the Public Integrity Unit. During his time with LMPD, Chief Laytham served on the FBI Public Corruption Task Force.

After serving in Louisville for 23 years, Chief Laytham came to work at the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office in January 2019 serving as a Lt. Colonel and Chief of Staff.

Sheriff Sholar has said, “After working with Marcus Laytham for the last few months, I determined he has all the qualities and experience I am looking for in a Chief Deputy. I am convinced he brings the skill, experience, training in law enforcement and administration that we need for a Nationally Rated Sheriff’s Office. I look forward to working with Chief Laytham as we lead the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office in the years to come.”
